John Tomson.

John Thomson was born in Northern Ireland in 1969, but grew up near Preston.

John Thomson started as a comedian where his stand up act included a character called Bernard Right-On. He became friends with Steve Coogan, with whom he would later collaborate on various shows and most notably as Fat Bob in Paul Calf sketches.

Another important television role for John Thomson was his writing and acting on the comedy sketch show, The Fast Show. His characters included the archetypal jazz presenter (Louis Balfour) who was fond of saying 'cool'.

To date, Thomson is best known for his role as Pete Gifford in Cold Feet, ITV's critically acclaimed and highly popular comedy with James Nesbitt and Helen Baxendale.

Other credits include Men Behaving Badly and Blackpool.

In 2006, John Thomson was cast in the leading role of lawyer Charlie Darling in the BBC's New Street Law. New Street Law's second series started in February 2007.

Thomson's fellow cast member, Lisa Faulkner described John as having: "this brilliant ability to then [after making people laugh on the set between filming] be able, when they say 'action', to turn it off and just work, whereas we're all left in hysterics, trying to get it together."

In March 2007 John Thomson played the hypnotherapist, Ray Bould in ITV's three-part conspiracy thriller, Mobile.

John Thomson is married with two daughters.

John Thomson scored 168 in an IQ test and, he told the Radio Times, whilst working on New Street Law he was nicknamed 'Google' because he is a mine of information.

In April 2008, it was revealed that John Thomson will present a Saturday lunchtime show on BBC Radio Manchester.

In June 2009, John Thomson and wife Samantha appeared on All Star Mr & Mrs on ITV.
